What happened to my baseball cap?

Posted on: February 26, 2008 7:44 pm

Where has it gone?

I've looked all over but I can't seem to find a navy blue cap with a bright red "B" on it for the life of me. Sure, there are many other colors to chose from: Green and Red, Pink and Red, Red and White, Baby Blue and Red, Red and Red, Red and White, Black and Black and WAY too many others to mention.

When did it become such a fanatical thing to want to have a normal Red Sox cap?

I try to think back to being a child, and remember always having a Sox cap that I was proud of. I used to wear that cap until it was completely faded and torn to shreds...Then I would get another and repeat the cycle. Now a days, it seems there are too many choices and styles for people to chose from and it nearly destroys the identity of the team they support.

It gets crazier. I love talking Baseball, so when I see someone wearing a ball cap I start chatting said team up with them. Do you know how many times I have heard, "Naw man, I just like the hat..." or "I don't really follow baseball". Are you kidding me??? You wear a cap for a respective team and you have no idea about the history behind it?

Boott: LOL...I got a kick out of reading your blog.  I agree with you, though, there are too many "odd" colored baseball caps.  Give me my navy blue cap with the white Old English D on it and I'm happy.

BTW: How did you come to be a LIONS fan!!!  Surprised me to see that when the rest of your favorite teams are from Beantown.

What happened to my baseball cap?

Well said.

I guess a cap represents different things to different people.  I think you should get a pink one.  I have a Justin Timberlake N*Sync tee shirt that I wear just for irony.  Were you looking in "Lids" in the Mall of America, by any chance?

No, but in all seriousness, I feel your pain.

When I was growing up many of the Patriots games were blacked out and I got to see a lot of other teams play. The Lions were always a team that I enjoyed watching (having Barry Sanders helped), and since I am a loyal fan, I've stuck with them!

What happened to my baseball cap?

I have my normal Red Sox cap, the one I only wear during the playoffs and big regular season series for the Sox. That's the one that I have used a rally cap for to win both World Series titles for the Sox (After game 3 in 2004 ALCS put the rally cap on, didn't turn it back, and the Sox won. In 2007, put the rally cap on after game 4 in the ALCS, didn't turn it back, and the Sox won too!). I always turn it back after the season's over, you know, preserve the magic.

However, for the regular season I wear a Sox batting practice cap, a Sox new-era hat with the Sox logo on the front and the Boston B in the background, and then there's my pimp Red Sox hat that's mostly for show, which has a velvet feel, it's red with blue stripes and has the Sox logo on the front and the Boston B on the back. Just a bit fancier from the norm, but they're still not pink or green.

Then, there's the hats I have from 20 other MLB teams that I wear, none of which are pink or green, mind you.

But as for the crazy talk and people just wearing the hat, I deal with that too around campus. I remember when I was wearing a Mets hat last year pre-season, in Best Buy, the guy behind the register said, "Hey, ready for another 20 win season for Pedro." or something like that, and I nicely said that he was out until at least July with an injury. He proceded to tell me I had no clue what I was talking about with regards to baseball and that I was completely wrong. I love it!

I also love people that wear team ballcaps to the ballpark where the team on their cap isn't playing. Someone last year at a ballgame was wearing a Phillies hat to a Yankees-Blue Jays game I went to....

I collect hats for teams I root for and places we go to on vacation.  You're right, nothing beats the ole traditional blue with red B logo.  I guess we have never run into each other...

What happened to my baseball cap?

I was getting ready to blog about this myself! Kudos for a great topic.

The only Cubs hat I will ever wear is the classic blue with a big bright red "C" in the middle.
